Patrick McDowell

Crafting Narratives in Fashion

Meet Patrick McDowell, a visionary London-based designer reshaping the fashion landscape. With roots in Liverpool, McDowell crafts stories through his unique blend of sustainability, humor, and historical inspiration.

"Where Threads Weave Tales: Navigating Fashion's Unconventional Terrain with Patrick McDowell."

The Catholic Fairytales campaign video became a testament to McDowell's vision, weaving a narrative that transcends traditional boundaries.

Embracing inspiration from Catholic Art history, the video reinterprets iconic compositions through through a queer lens. Each scene mirrors emotions found in Catholic art, portraying the church as profoundly human. This visual exploration brings forth a nuanced and contrasted perspective on the intersection of faith and identity.

Reimagining the Tapestry of Faith

The campaign video for Marie Antoinette Goes to Liverpool became a lively and humorous exploration, blending historical opulence with the glitzy drama of pop culture.

Taking cues from McDowell's Versailles-inspired collection, the video unfolds as a music video made from sampled talking head moments, reminiscent of reality TV shows. The concept marries the extravagance of the real housewives with the courtly drama of Versailles, resulting in a quirky and delightful visual experience.

A Pop Culture Symphony

The creative direction centred on translating McDowell’s fashion concepts into narrative-driven films.

Responsibilities included shaping the story structure, directing campaign videos, and developing visual and emotional coherence across both projects.

The work highlighted fashion as a form of storytelling — one capable of exploring femininity and fantasy in equal measure.
