Pokémon x Balmain
Where Fashion Meets Fantasy
In an unprecedented collaboration, Balmain joined forces with Pokémon to merge high fashion with the world of gaming through connected Pokémon patches distributed across the US, Europe, and Asia.
"Catch them all."
The experience was designed as a Mini App — a lightweight, web-based platform instantly triggered by tapping the garment’s connected patch.
Each patch gave access to a unique digital space linked to the specific piece, creating an exclusive, one-to-one connection between user and product.
By doing so, fans entered a Pokémon-inspired digital quest, where each scan activated a unique digital Pokémon badge and unlocked exclusive content and rewards such as Pokémon Unite skins.
The more patches users collected, the further they advanced in the quest to “catch them all.” Those who completed the full set unlocked the Legendary Pokémon patch, giving them access to VIP rewards, including entry to the Balmain Festival.
The project balanced luxury storytelling with interactive play, translating Pokémon’s mythology into a sleek, fashion-driven experience that celebrated both communities.
The Quest
The idea centred on the Collector Quest. A connected journey designed to translate Pokémon’s mythology into the language of fashion.
Responsibilities covered the creative concept, experience structure, and narrative design, ensuring coherence between Pokémon’s world and Balmain’s aesthetic codes.
The process included research into Pokémon lore, defining the user journey, and shaping the visual and narrative tone of the quest to achieve a balance between playfulness, exclusivity, and brand integrity.
Approach
The initiative delivered outstanding engagement and conversion results, strengthening Balmain’s digital innovation credentials.
Fans spent significantly more time interacting with the brand ecosystem, driven by the excitement of collecting and unlocking rewards.
The collaboration demonstrated the potential of connected fashion — transforming physical garments into digital experiences and setting the stage for future luxury-gaming crossovers.
