Navigating Transparency in Fragrance

Perfume is often about mystery. Bastille chose honesty instead, redefining what transparency means in fragrance.

"Unlocking Fragrance with the Freedom to Wander."

The experience was designed as a Smart Packaging Interface, an instant, web-based experience accessible by scanning the product’s QR code.


Each bottle connected directly to a dedicated page unique to that reference, allowing users to trace their fragrance from ingredient sourcing to the exact moment of interaction.

Once scanned, users embarked on an immersive journey exploring the perfume’s virtuous circle.

Reflecting the brand’s ethos, the navigation design allowed users to choose their own direction within the circular experience, with no predetermined path and the freedom to explore, much like the spirit of natural perfume for free spirits.

Through four chapters – Sourcing, Composition, Expression, and Sustainability – users could uncover ingredient origins, creative inspirations, and even bottling dates. Each fragrance carried a unique digital ID, turning every bottle into a singular, traceable object.

Powered by RFID technology, the experience deepened trust and transparency while giving Bastille real-time insight into its supply chain.

Connected Fragrance

The creative direction aimed to embody Bastille’s virtuous circle — a model of transparency, sustainability, and socio-economic balance — through a system that could be explored freely.

The experience was designed without a beginning or an end, allowing users to navigate naturally between interconnected concepts. This non-linear structure reflected the idea of transparency as a living system rather than a static statement.

Visually, the design drew from the colours of each fragrance packaging, creating a distinct yet cohesive environment for every scent. Simple geometric forms, represented as evolving points, illustrated the story and transformed as users progressed through the circle. The result was an experience that felt both minimal and alive, constantly shifting to reveal new layers of meaning and connection.

The Bastille Parfums connected experience reshaped how transparency can be expressed in fragrance.

By transforming traceability into an act of discovery, it educated consumers on sourcing and sustainability while creating a sense of personal connection with the brand’s values. The RFID system strengthened supply chain visibility and consumer trust, while the digital storytelling fostered curiosity and engagement.

The project reinforced Bastille’s position as a pioneer of conscious, connected perfumery — where honesty becomes part of the sensory experience itself.
